Royal Navy ships bulkhead clock Elliott London
This is an original Royal Navy clock from an RN ship in service in the 1950's. These clocks were made by Smiths and Elliott . This is an Elliot clock and the mechanism is clearly marked on the rear.
Its use is confirmed by the broad arrow/crows foot mark and the 160174 number on the dial - the number refers to the Admiralty Pattern and is the specification set by the Royal Navy for this clock.
This clock is post war from the 50's. There are later similar clocks that have the Nato Stores code in place of the AP.
This is a large brass ships bulkhead clock. with an 8 inch dial and hour, minute and second hand. These clocks are referred to as Bridge Clocks or Engine Room Clocks. The hours are secondary/smaller than the minutes and seconds.
A very nice large quality clock.
The clock is fully working - keeps good time and runs for 7 days.
The clock has the bezel securing lock( at 7 o'clock)that is turned by the winding key and holds the bezel/glass shut.
There is also push bar ( at 9 o'clock) that can stop the clock to allow it to time an activity (or synchronize).
There is a further push rod ( at 3 o'clock) that can be used to adjust the hands without opening the bezel.
The clock glass is original and thick/ bevelled and has a few small scratches and one small chip ( at 55/11 o'clock) from its Naval Use. This is minor and does not detract from the clocks aesthetics or its function.
The clock is mounted on a wooden board that has a key slot at the back for wall hanging.
Comes with a key.
Weighs 4 kg 8 inch dial. Width max 12 inches for the mounting board. Height 5 inches
