Bowl made from an Airspeed Horsa relic mounted in Zebrano wood.

Original sections of reinforcing plates from a WW2 Horsa glider.

The Airspeed AS 51/AS 58 Horsa was a large troop carrying glider that was used extensively by the British in their invasion and assaults on Europe. They saw service in Sicily, Normandy and Arnhem

They were made of wooden frames with plywood skins. The wooden structure had several metal plates that were necessary to reinforce the joints and heavy strain points.

This plate came form the excavation of a glider remains and were to be used in a failed restoration project.

We have electrolytically de rusted the steel to remove surface rust.

This steel circular plate is similar to the large washers visible in the roof of the Horsa in the last image.

We have turned a 6 inch x 2 inch piece of Zebrano wood to make a custom bowl to hold teh relic.

It can be used as a Vide poche/pocket tidy or for storing small items.

The internal hols is 6 cm x 2.5 cm deep.

The size of the bowl is just under 6 inches x 2 inches.

The colours of the rusted steel match the Zebrano.
