This is a panel designed to represent the engine cowl of a Republic P47 Thunderbolt.
The P47 was also called the Jug or Juggernaut as compared to other fighters such as the Spitfire - it was massive! Its empty weight was ca. 4.5 tons,
It was flown by the USAAF in Europe as air support but especially as ground support.
As it was one of the only allied open cowled aircraft it was often painted with bright leading edge to its cowl - so that it could be distinguished from the FW190.
The RAF flew thunderbolts 240 P47 Mk1’s and 590 P47 Mk2’s. Many in the Far East.
The panel is representing an aircraft from 258 squadron in late 1944. The text below the Yorkshire Rose translates as Here and Everywhere.
